Ribbon Pakoda is a Crispy and an easy snack which is made during Diwali and  Janmasthami in most of the houses. This thin crispy snack melts in mouth and gives a wonderful taste, Ribbon pakoda is also called as Ribbon Murukku, It is very simple to prepare and tastes great as a evening snack.

Preparation time – 10 min

Cooking time – 20 min

Serves – 4

Ingredients –

Gram flour – 1 cup

Rice flour – 1/2 cup

Chilly powder – 1 tbs

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp

Ajwin/ carom seeds – 1/2 tsp

Butter – 1 tbs

Salt to taste

Oil for deep frying

Chakli machine with mould (as shown in the above image)

Method – 

To make or to prepare Ribbon pokoda/ ribbon muruku –

Add gram flour, chilly powder, turmeric powder,carom seeds and salt, combine properly together.

Add little by little water to make a  soft dough, knead well.

Take a chakli machine/ maker and fix the ribbon pakoda making plate/disc/ mould. Heat oil in a pan, when it is hot (to test if the oil is hot, drop a small ball of dough into the oil, if it raises to the surface immediately, then the oil is hot enough to fry.)

Press it directly into the hot oil in a circular motion. You will get a sizzling sound when the ribbon pokoda is getting cooked. Flip it over to the other side and fry both sides well till golden brown.

When the sizzling sound ceases, the ribbon pakoda is done. Use a slotted ladle to remove the it and drain it on a paper towel.

Repeat the process for the rest of the dough.

Ribbon pakoda is ready to be served. When the it cools, store it in an air tight container and enjoy as an evening snack with a cup of tea. Stays good at room temperature for a week.

Note – You can add garlic or hing(asafoetida) or cumin to get different flavour.
