Wood Apple Sweet and Spicy recipe I Belada Hannina Chigali

Wood apples are hard-shelled fruit, a summer fruit In India, Wood apple pulp is used in Ayurvedic medicine as a tonic for the liver and the heart. Most often the Wood apple is cracked open using the back of a knife and a steady hand, and the flesh is scooped and eaten fresh from within the shell, the pulp is mixed with jaggery or made as a sweet, tangy and spicy chutney. Ingredients:
To make sweet –
The flesh of one ripe wood apple
Jaggery – 1/2 cup scrapped/grated/powdered
Cardamom – 1 crushed
To make sweet and spicy –
The flesh od wood apple ripe/yet to ripe
Jaggery – 2 tbs powdered
Cumin – less than 1/4 tsp freshly crushed
Chilly powder -2 pinch Adjust to your taste
Salt to taste
For tempering –
Mustard – 1 pinch
Curry leaves – few
Oil – 1/2 Tsp
Method:
Mash wood apple properly with hand/potato masher,
Add jaggery and cardamom
Once again mix it properly with hand/potato masher until jaggery gets melted.
Rest it for 10 min before you eat.
Delicious and Flavorful Wood apple with Jaggery is ready to Enjoy.
To make sweet and spicy –
Take wood apple flesh in a bowl, toss it with salt, chilly powder, Freshly crushed cumin, and jaggery.
Mix all the ingredients with hand until jaggery melts within or crush the mixture to a coarse paste with crushing utensil/hand blender
Once done temper – Heat oil in a pan when it is hot sizzle with mustard and curry leaves, remove from the flame add it to the prepared mixture. Mix once again and enjoy.
