Veg momos recipe

Healthy, homemade, nutritious, vegetable momos is an authentic, simple, quick and delicious recipe, make a perfect snack for the kids and an appetizer for parties. Momo is a type of dumpling native to Tibet, traditionally filled with vegetarian or non-veg stuffing eaten with a variety of sauces.
To prepare dough –
All-purpose flour (maida) – 1 cup
Oil – 1 Tsp
Water to knead
Salt to taste
To prepare dough to make momos –
Add all the ingredients in a bowl mix to prepare a dough by adding little by little water, Knead to a firm dough. Cover the dough and keep aside for 30 min
For stuffing –
Onion – 1 medium finely chopped
Vegetables – carrot, cabbage, spring onion, french beans, capsicum – each 1 cup chopped finely
Garlic – 1 tbsp chopped finely
Pepper powder – 1 Tsp
Chilly sauce – 1 tsp (optional)
Soy sauce – 1 Tsp
Coriander – 1 bunch chopped
Salt to taste
Olive Oil – 1 tbs
Method –
To prepare stuff for veg momos –
Heat a pan by adding oil to it, when it is hot add chopped garlic, stir-fry until the raw smell evaporates from it in a medium-low flame.
Add chopped onion and fry till it turns to translucent
Add chopped veggies together and saute,
increase the flame and stir fry the vegetables over high heat.
When the edges start getting golden, add soy sauce, chilly sauce, salt, and pepper. Continue to stir fry on high heat till the vegetables are cooked. Takes about 8 to 9 mins on a high flame. Once it is done, check the taste add salt or pepper if necessary.
Stuffing and shaping momos –
Divide the dough into two parts. Make a log from each part. Cut the log into equal slices.
Make a ball of each slice and take each dough ball and on a lightly dusted board, roll each dough ball into a thin circle of about 2-3 inch diameter. Place 1 or 2 tsp of vegetable stuffing in the center. Lift one side of the edge and start pleating.
To make easy you can also role and cut it by using a round shaped utensil, and stuff
Start folding and forming the pleats one by one. towards the end, join the pleats in the center.
Prepare all momo’s this way and keep them ready, to steam them.
Heat water in a steamer or in an electric cooker or in a pressure cooker. Let the water come to a boil. In a greased steamer pan or in idli molds, place the momo’s keeping space between them so that they don’t touch each other. Steam momo’s for 5-6 minutes. once it is done remove them with a flat spoon carefully fro the steamer.
Serve vegetable momo’s with a spicy sauce like schezwan sauce or tomato-chili sauce. You can also serve it with red chili garlic chutney.
Note –
You can add veggies of your choice of mushroom, cottage cheese…
Don’t overdo the steaming, as the dough becomes dense and dry.
When you touch the momo then dough should not feel sticky to you. This means they are done and the momos will have a transparent look.
You can also try Gobi Manchurian, Paneer noodles, Veg fried rice.
