Tur dal rasam recipe

Rasam is a very popular south Indian traditional dish,which is healthy and easily digestible. It is eaten with rice or separately served as a spicy soup. In a traditional meal, it is preceded by a sambar rice course and is followed by curd rice. Rasam has a distinct taste in comparison to the sambar due to its own seasoning ingredients and is usually fluid in consistency. Tur dal rasam is a tasty and healthy rasam recipe, do try this recipe and enjoy with rice.

Cooking time – 15 minutes
Serves- 4 to 6.
Ingredients:
Turdal – 1/2 cup
Tomatoes – 2 medium (cut into two halves)
Pepper corns – 1/2 tsp
Coriander seeds – 3/4 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
Garlic – 15 cloves
Tamarind – 1 small ball
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – 3 springs
Red chillies – 3 no’s broken into 2 pieces
Hing/ Asafoetida- 1 pinch
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Coriander leaves – 1 cup (chopped)
Salt to taste
Oil for seasoning
How to prepare or make Tur dal rasam –
Take a small bowl soak tamarind with little warm water squeeze it and make a juice of it, keep it aside.
Pressure cook turdal and tomatoes for 3 to 4 whistle. When it becomes cool squeeze the dal and tomatoes together and keep it aside.
Take a kadai dry roast pepper, cumin and coriander seeds.
Take a mixer jar and make a coarse powder of it.
Finally add Garlic and make crushed
Heat a container add 2 or 3 tsp of oil,when oil is hot add mustard seeds when it begins to crackle add curry leaves,red chilies,hing (asafoetida), fry for a while then add crushed powder and fry for a while.
Add cooked turdal and tomato mixture and add water as desired to make it watery soup. Add tamarind juice, turmeric powder and salt to taste bring it to boil for 5 to 8 minutes.
