Use small portions of dal to grind batch wise as its easier to grind into a soft paste. Once done fluff the paste properly,

swv3

Add grated jaggery and freshly crushed cardamom,

swv4

Mix well, until jaggery gets mixed properly with the mixture and keep ready. Heat oil in a pan to deep fry,

swv5

When the oil is ready, wet your hand with water, take a lemon size ball, flatten it to vada, make a hole in the center, gently drop it gently in the hot oil, fry both sides until crisp and golden brown in a medium flame, (take care always cook in a medium flame as jaggery is added, it turns to dark in colour if you fry in a high flame)

swv6

Once done, remove them with a slotted spoon, drain the excess oil in it, place it on a kitchen tissue to absorb excess  in it. Continue the same in two or  three batches.

Enjoy !!!
