Sweet poha I Sihi Avalakki

Sweet Poha is a very easy to make recipe with thin flattened rice flakes. In Karavali region sweet poha is prepared and offered to God as a Nivedyam/Prasad, during pooja’s. Flattened rice is said to be favorite delicacy of Lord Krishna. Sweet poha is called as ” Pancha kajjaya ” which is made from five ingredients like thin flattened rice flakes (poha), grated coconut, jaggery, ghee and cardamom powder, a heavenly delicious sweet dish, which can be prepared in a short time.
Ingredients:
Thin flattened rice flakes (paper avalakki) – 3 cup
Coconut – 1 1/2 cup freshly grated
Jaggery – 1 cup powdered (adjust to your taste)
Ghee – 1 tbs
Cardamom powder – 1/4 tsp (freshly crushed)

Method:
Add powdered jaggery in a heavy bottomed kadai or in a nonstick pan, sprinkle little water (about 1 or 2 tbs of water) bring it to boil, keep stirring until it dissolves completely. cook in a high flame.
Bring the mixture to little thick in consistency (single string consistency), it takes about 5 min to reach that consistency,
Make a low flame, mix properly, add grated coconut into
Mix well, Cook in a low flame for 4 – 5 min, let the coconut get cook well in a low flame. switch off the flame, add ghee, mix with the mixture, add crushed cardamom powder, mix
Allow the mixture to cool completely .
Ensure the mixture is completely cooled, add flattened rice flakes, mix with the mixture, mix nicely with your hands until the mixture coats evenly with the flattened rice.
Rest it for 10 min before you serve.
Heavenly delicious Sihi Avalakki/Sweet Poha is ready to offer God as a divine Nivedyam/Prasad. It can be stored or preserved or consumed for the next day also.
