Seeme badanekai palya or chayote squash curry

Health benefits of having Choyate squash/Seeme Badanekai are many, it is rich in vitamin, calcium and iron, it is eaten as similar to cucumber. Seeme Badanekai palya / Chayote squash curry is very easy to prepare recipe and very tasty. This can be served with Chapathi, dosa, idli and also as a side dish for rice.

Cooking time – 10 min

Serves – 4.

Ingredients :

Seeme Badnekai / Chayote Squash – 2 nos (chopped)

Chana dal – 3 tbs (soaked/cooked)

Onion -2 nos (chopped)

Green chilies – 3nos ( silted into 2)

Mustard seed – 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves – 1 bunch

Coriander leaves – 1 bucnh

Grated coconut – 2 to 3 tbs

Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp

Coriander powder – 1/4 tsp

Salt to taste

Oil to fry

Procedure :

Soak Channa dal for 30 min or pressure cook by adding little water for 1 whistle and keep aside.

Take a pressure cooker pan, heat oil in it, when oil becomes hot add mustard seeds when they begin to sparkle. Add green chilies,curry leaves and chopped coriander leaves, fry for a while and add chopped onion fry till it becomes translucent add chopped seeme badanekai/chayote squash saute for a while and

Add channa dal mix altogether add salt to taste,turmeric powder and coriander powder, mix.Add 1/2 cup of water to cook, pressure cook for 1 whistle .

When cooker becomes cool,bring the curry to boil till it becomes thick, add grated coconut cook for a while and turn off the flame.Transfer the dish to a serving bowl.

Enjoy the dish as a side dish for roti,rice or dosa even it goes well with akki rotti.
