Raw Tomato Chutney

Raw Tomato chutney is easy to make yummy chutney to accompany with hot steamed rice/Idli/Dosa. It is a nice tangy, spicy chutney made with raw tomatoes, green chili, with coconut and a tempering of spices, this chutney is a must try recipe if you love tangy and spicy food. Here is how to make green tomato chutney or raw tomato chutney.
Ingredients:
Raw tomato – 4 to 5 no’s
Onion – 2 medium chopped roughly
Coconut – 1/2 cup
Garlic – 2 or 3 pods
Cumin – 1/4 tsp
Green chilies – 2 or 3 no’s
Tamarind – 1 small piece
Jaggery – 1 tsp powdered (optional)
Salt to taste
For tempering –
Mustard – 1/4 Tsp
Urad dal – 1/2 Tsp
Curry leaves – 1 spring

Method:
Rinse raw tomatoes, wipe it with a cotton cloth, cut it into thin lengthy slices, keep all other ingredients handy.
Take a pan, add 2 tsp of oil in it, when it is hot fry cumin, green chilies for few mins. (here you can remove it separately to grind or continue to fry with other ingredients both are same)
Then add onion and garlic, fry until it turns translucent.
When the onion is almost done add chopped tomatoes, fry until it becomes soft, remove from the flame, allow the mixture to cool.
When the mixture has cooled enough to transfer it to a mixer jar along with coconut.
Blend it to chutney, add powdered jaggery tamarind and salt to taste, add water to adjust to your consistency.
Once chutney is done, transfer it to a serving bowl, Heat 1 tsp of oil in a pan for tempering when it is hot add mustard, allow it to splutter, then add urad dal fry until it turns light brown then add curry leaves fry until it sizzle. Add the prepared tempering to Raw Tomato chutney toss it well.
