Raw mango rice or mavinakayi chitranna recipe

Today’s dish, Raw Mango rice, which is very tasty ,quick and easy to make and a perfect lunch box option . Its usually made on festivals. Apt dish to empty off left over rice.In Karnataka,raw mango rice is usually prepared in different types, though it is prepared almost same as Lemon rice, But here the taste comes from raw mangoes instead of lemon juice. Serves – 4
Ingredients –
Rice – 2 cup
Raw mango – 1 big grated
Onion – 3 medium chopped
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Chana dal – 2 tsp
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Peanuts – 5 tbs
Green chilies – 5 chopped
Curry leaves – 4 springs
Coconut – 1 cup grated
Coriander leaves – 1 cup chopped
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil to fry
How to prepare raw mango rice –
Cook rice by adding 1:2 ratio of water and allow it to cool and set aside.
Heat a kadai by adding oil in it,when it is hot add mustard seeds ,allow it to crackle,then add peanuts fry tillit turns to golden brown in colour,add chana dal and urad dal,fry till it turns to golden brown in colour
Then add chopped green chilies,curry leaves and half cup of chopped coriander leaves.
Stir fry for a while and add chopped onion
Fry till it turns to translucent
Add turmeric powder and salt to taste.
Add grated coconut and grated raw mango and mix altogether .
Turn off the flame,add cooked rice into it and mix properly
Add remaining chopped coriander leaves,mix once again.
Yummy, Raw mango rice /mavinakayi chitranna is ready to be served.
