Pepper Rasam I Menasina saaru recipe

Pepper rasam is a healthy and easy rasam recipe. An aromatic and tasty rasam, prepared with pepper, garlic, turmeric, and cumin. A spicy, tangy and hot rasam is good during cold winters, the best remedy to get relief from cold, sour throat or fever, a quick and easy flavorful rasam which can be prepared in a short time with simple ingredients. Menasina saaru is a traditional recipe commonly served to nursing mothers in south India.
Ingredients:
Pepper – 1 1/2 tbs
Garlic – 6- 7 cloves peeled
Cumin – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Dry chilly – 2 no’s broken into two pieces
Tamarind – small marble size ball
Coriander – small bunch chopped
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil for seasoning

Method:
Soak tamarind in 1/4 cup lukewarm water for 5 min, Crush pepper to a coarse powder, crush garlic pods and keep ready.
Heat a vessel by adding little oil in it, when it is hot add cumin, allow it to splutter, add chilies and curry leaves saute, make a low flame, add crushed pepper and garlic
Saute for a while, add 4 to 5 cup of water, squeeze tamarind remove the waste from it, add tamarind juice into
Add turmeric powder and salt to taste, bring it to boil for 5 min. switch off the flame add chopped coriander stir.
Serve hot as a cup of soup or Enjoy with hot steamed rice.
Note –
Take care not to burn or over roast any ingredients while tempering as it spoils the taste of the dish.
If you’re making more quantity of rasam add more pepper and garlic in preparation.
