Navil kosu palya I Knol khol curry recipe

Navil kosu palya is a traditional side dish for sambar rice, or goes well with roti’s also, the curry is prepared by adding sambar powder in preparation, it is quick and healthy recipe with simple ingredients, which tastes delicious and a perfect side dish for sambar/rasam with rice. German Turnip in English is Navil kosu in Kannada and Knol khol / Noolkol in Hindi. Turnips are highly nutritious and delicious vegetable. 

Ingredients:

Navi kosu (Knol khol ) – 2 medium thinly sliced

Mustard – 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves – 1 spring

Sambar powder – 2 -3 tsp

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp

Coconut – 1/4 cup

Coriander – 2- 3 tbs chopped

Salt

Oil to fry

 

Method:

Remove the skin of Knol khol /turnip, slice it thinly as shown in the above image above. Keep all the ingredients ready to start.

Heat a pan by adding oil in it, when it is hot add mustard, allow it to sizzle in oil, add curry leaves, add chopped onion and fry until it turns to translucent.

Add chopped Navil kosu (turnip) into it and fry for 2 – 3 min

Add sambar powder, turmeric and salt to taste. Saute in oil for a minute.

Add 1/2 cup of water and cook it until done, close the lid and cook in a medium flame,

Ensure that the veggies are cooked/done, (if the veggies is not done/cooked properly sprinkle little more water and continue..)  bring the curry to boil until the water in the curry must evaporate fully, bring the curry  to  thick in consistency,

Add grated coconut and coriander, toss it well with the curry, remove from the flame.

Transfer the dish to a serving dish and enjoy as a side dish for roti or rice.

Notes – 

Always select tender and fresh Navil kosu (turnip) to prepare this curry.

Add sambar powder to adjust to your taste and choice.

    Hi,
    Your palya recipe sounds delicious. However, your main ingredient Navil Kosu is called Knol Knol in English. Turnip belongs to the daikon or radish family and is less pungent than your average Moolangi.
