Moong dal rasam is a delicious rasam, this rasam is sour and spicy it is best to have rasam in chilly winters or when you are suffering from cough and cold the spices & herbs that go into the rasam like cumin, black pepper, garlic,turmeric powder and tamarind help in relieving the cold and also act as a digestives.Rasam can be had plain like a soup as an appetizer.It can also be served with steamed rice along with a side vegetable dish or a non veg side dish

Preparation time – 10 min

Cooking time – 15 min

Serves – 4 +4

Ingredients –  

Moong dal – 1/2 cup

Tomato – 3 medium

Cumin seeds – 2 tsp

Pepper corns – 1 1/2 tsp

Garlic – 15 cloves

Onion – 1 medium chopped

Coriander leaves – 1 cup chopped

Curry leaves – 4 spring(2 spring to be chopped and 2 spring for seasoning)

Turmeric powder – 1 tsp

Tamarind – 1 small ball(marble size)

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Red chilies – 3 no’s

Salt to taste

Oil for tempering

How to make or prepare ( hesaru bele rasam)Moong dal rasam – 

Pressure cook moong dal and tomatoes together for 3 whistles by adding 4 cup of water, allow it to cool and keep aside.

Take a mixer jar add cumin,pepper corns make a coarse powder finally add garlic and crush together

when moong dal and tomatoes becomes cool squeeze it together,add all the above ingredients except tempering items.

Squeeze once again together add salt to taste.

Take a casserole heat it by adding 2 tsp of oil in it ,when oil is hot add mustard seeds when it begins to sparkle add curry leaves and red chilies(broken into two pieces) fry till it splutter, then add the dal mixture add water as you desire and bring it to boil for 5 min.

Healthy moong dal rasam is ready to be served with rice.
