Masale chitranna recipe

Chitranna is one of the easiest and fastest rice dishes to make. It is tasty and can be consumed as a breakfast or light evening food which is very widely prepared in Karnataka. It is very easy and flavorful. Chitranna is prepared in many varieties this recipe is one of among them.
Preparation time – 15 min
Cooking time – 25 min
Serves – 4
Ingredients –
Rice – 2 cup
Onion – 2 medium chopped
Green chilly – 5 no’s chopped /split into two
Curry leaves – 2 springs
Coriander leaves – 1 bunch chopped
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Peanuts – 4 tbs
Channa dal – 1 tbs
Urad dal – 1 tbs
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil to fry
To Grind:
Coconut – 1 cup
Garlic – 15 cloves
Ginger – 3 inches
Cloves-6 nos
Cinnamon- 5 pieces
How to prepare masale chitranna
Pressure cook rice by adding 1:2 ratio of water and keep it aside.
Take a mixer jar add coconut, garlic, ginger, cloves and cinnamon ground to coarse paste by adding little water. Keep it aside.
Heat a kadai by adding oil in it when oil is hot add mustard seeds, when it begins to crackle add peanuts, stir fry till it becomes golden brown in colour, add channa dal and urad dal, fry till is turns to golden brown.
Add chopped green chillies, coriander leaves and curry leaves fry for a while.
Add chopped onions stir fry till it turns to golden brown in colour.
Add grounded masala paste stir fry for a while till you get a aromatic flavour.
Add little water bring it to boil, add turmeric powder and salt to taste. Boil till it becomes thick so that oil separates from it.Turn off the flame. {Note : This paste can be preserved in a air tight container for a week in refrigerator, which can be mixed with rice and served}.
Add cooked rice to the mixture and mix it properly
Tasty and spicy masale chirtranna is ready to be served.
