Lemon puffed rice upma

Mandakki oggarne is a light breakfast dish, a popular dish from Davangere, got to learn this scrumptious snack dish from localities, which I prepare often, my son’s favorite dish, it is commonly known as Thoisida mandakki means rinsed/soaked puffed rice served with hot hot mirchi bajji’s, which makes a delightful combination with mandakki. Loved to have it all the time when we lived in Davangere.
Ingredients:
Puffed rice – 200 gm
Mustard – 1/2 tsp
Cumin – 1/4 tsp
Green chilies – 3 no’s chopped
Curry leaves – 2 springs
Coriander – 1 small bunch chopped
Onion – 3 or 4 no’s chopped finely
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Lemon juice – 2 tsp (adjust to your taste)
Roasted gram – 2 tbs
Coconut – 1/4 cup (optional)
Salt to taste
Oil – 3 tbs

Method:
Add puffed rice in a wide bowl, soak in water for 5 min, rinse, squeeze and remove the water in it, drain the water using a colander and keep aside.
Add roasted gram in a mixer jar make a fine powder and keep ready.
Heat a pan by adding oil in it, when it is hot add mustard seeds and cumin allow it to splutter, add chopped chilies, coriander saute in oil, add chopped onion fry until it turns to translucent
Add drained puffed rice into it, mix well add salt and turmeric, make a low flame for 2 min
Add roasted gram powder and grated coconut, toss it well remove from the flame.
Add fresh lemon juice and chopped coriander once again toss it well.

Note –
Fry onion until translucent not brown in color.
Add roasted gram (powdered) and lemon juice to adjust your taste.
