Kabul chana usli I Kadekalu usli I channa sundal

Chana Usli is a very delicious and popular recipe of Karnataka. It is very simple and tasty side dish prepared with soaked Kabul chana or white chickpea , boiled, drained and seasoned which makes a flavorful and tasty side dish to enjoy as a side dish for sambar rice. You can make similar type of usli with Kabul chana or white chickpea, brown chickpea, green gram or moong, dried green peas.
Ingredients:
Kabul chana – 1 cup soaked for over night
For seasoning –
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Dry chilies – 2 no’s
Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp powdered
Coconut – 1/2 cup freshly grated
Coriander – for garnishing
Salt to taste
Jaggery – 1 tsp powdered

Method:
Rinse Kabul chana dal in water, soak it for 8 to 10 hrs or for over night. Rinse the soaked chana once again in water, add it in a pressure pan add 2 cup of water and salt to cook , cook it for 3 to 4 whistles. (take care not to cook until mushy)
When it is done drain the water in it completely in a colander.
Keep all the ingredients ready to season it.
Heat a pan by adding little oil in it, when it is hot add mustard seeds, allow it to sizzle, add broken chilies, curry leaves and asafoetida fry until curry leaves splutters, add cooked and drained chana into it, toss it well, add powdered jaggery (optional)finally add freshly grated coconut and chopped coriander into it. Toss it well. Remove from the flame.
Enjoy as a side dish for Breakfast dish like poha, upma, lemon rice, or as a side dish for sambar rice.
