Hayagreeva I chana dal and jaggery sweet dish

Hayagreeva is a traditional sweet preparation of South India, that is made during festivals and special occasions. Hayagriva is a sweet made with chana dal, jaggery, dry coconut. A traditional sweet dish to offer God as Nivedyam / Prasad and an easy to make with simple ingredients.
Ingredients:
Chana dal – 1 cup
Jaggery – 3/4 cup grated (adjust to your taste)
Dry copra – 1/4 cup grated
Elachi – 2 or 3 crushed
Cashew nut – 1/2 tbs
Raisin – 5
Ghee – 1 tbs

Method:
Soak chana dal in water for at least 30 min ( this reduces your cooking time) or you can pressure cook without soaking for 2 whistles.
Cook the soaked chana dal in sufficient amount of water in a pressure cooker for 1 whistle, ensure the dal is cooked.
Drain the water in it with a colander and keep ready.
Add the drained dal to a pan and jaggery, saute until jaggery is melted completely without adding water, stir
On stirring you will observe that the mixture is thickening together as a mass to a semi-liquid state.
Add grated copra, stir
Add freshly crushed cardamom, mix, remove from the flame. Heat a tadka pan with 1 tbs of ghee, when it is hot fry cashew nut and raisin, add it to the mixture along with the ghee in it. mix properly.
Traditional Hayagreeva is ready.
Note –
You can add freshly grated coconut or grated dry copra of your choice in preparation.
