Green chicken curry

Green chicken curry is a South Karnataka curry which is usually called as ‘koli saaru’ in our mother tongue Kannada.It is prepared in two varieties one is green masala and the other is red masala which is unique.Green masala curry is prepared by adding mint leaves,coriander leaves,green chilies with onion and other spices., which taste good with rice, ragi mudde, chapati, dosa and poori.
Preparation time – 10 min
Cooking time – 25 min
Serves – 8
Ingredients –
Chicken – 1 kg
Ingredients for Paste -1
Onion – 3 medium cut into cubes
Mint/pudina leaves – 1 bunch
Coriander leaves – 1 bunch
Green chilies – 10 no’s
Ginger – 2 inches
Garlic – 2 whole [splited into cloves]
Pepper corns – 10 no’s
Cloves – 5 no’s
Cinnamon – 2 pieces
Coriander powder – 2 heaped tbs
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Procedure –
Take a mixer jar add all the above ingredients except chicken and make a fine paste and keep aside.
Ingredients for paste -II:
Coconut – 1 cup grated
Poppy seeds (khus khus) – 1 tsp
Roasted gram – 1 tbs
Ingredients for seasoning:
Onion – 1/2 chopped
Mint leaves – 1 tbs chopped
Coriander leaves – 1 tbs chopped
Oil to fry
Procedure :-
Heat a pan or a casserole add oil in it, when it is hot add chopped onions, coriander and mint leaves stir fry for a while add chicken pieces and mix altogether add salt to taste. Cook till the water evaporates fully.
Add grounded masala paste -I into it and mix altogether and fry for a while add water as per your consistency (less water for thick curry and more water for thin curry).
Cover the lid of the pan cook till the chicken is cooked. Add paste -II into the curry bring to boil for 5 to 8 min and turn of the flame.
Green Chicken curry is ready to be served.
