Coorg style chicken curry recipe

Coorg style chicken curry is a delicious side dish. A yummy grayish chicken side dish to serve with rice or roti, perfect when served with akki rotti. It is a traditional curry which is prepared with flavorful home made spice powder, which gives a unique taste to chicken. It is simple and easy to make recipe which is delicious in taste. Do try and enjoy as a side dish for rice or roti’s.

Ingredients –
To prepare coorgi masala powder –
Coriander seeds – 3 tbs
Pepper – 1 tsp
Cumin – 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Cinnamon – 1 inch single stick
Clove – 4 no’s
Method –
To make or to prepare coorgi masala powder –
Heat a pan, dry roast all the ingredients one by one separately to brown in colour in a medium flame, the ingredients must turn dark brown in colour. Take care not to burn any ingredients. Allow the ingredients to cool, once it is ready to powder, transfer all the ingredients to a mixer jar and make a fine powder and keep ready.
Ingredients
To prepare coorg chicken curry –
Chicken – 1 kg cut into medium pieces
Onion – 2 to 3 medium sized chopped
Tomato – 2 no’s chopped
Ginger garlic paste – 2 tbs
Curry leaves – 4 springs
Green chilies – 5 no’s chopped
Coorgi masala powder – 2 tbs
Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
Lemon – juice of 1 small lemon (adjust to your taste)
Coriander – 1/4 cup chopped
Salt to taste
Oil to fry
Method
To make or to prepare coorg chicken curry –
Heat a heavy bottomed pan by adding oil in it, when it is hot add chopped green chilies and curry leaves, saute, add chopped onion
Fry onion until translucent.
Add ginger garlic paste into it and fry until raw smell evaporates from it.
Add chopped tomatoes into it fry until it becomes soft and oil separates from it.
Add washed and drained chicken pieces into it, add salt to taste, saute, cook until water in it must absorb/evaporates fully in the chicken
Add spice powders, and combine with chicken properly.
Add water to cook and close the lid of the pan and cook in a medium flame, stir it occationaly before it is done.
Ensure the chicken is done, bring the curry to a thick in consistency. switch off the flame.
Add fresh lemon juice and toss it well.
Finally add chopped fresh coriander into it and mix
Coorg chicken curry is ready.
Enjoy coorg chicken curry as a side dish for rice or roti’s.
Notes –
To prepare this curry kachampuli is added which is removed/extracted from fruit which will be sour in taste. Other than that fresh lemon juice can also be added to prepare this curry.
Add lemon juice when chicken is done and removed from the flame or else it gives a bitter taste if lemon juice is added before/ cooked.
The consistency of the curry must be thick in consistency.
You can also add 1/2 tsp of poppy seeds to make masala powder.
