Chicken rasam recipe

Chicken rasam is a delicious south Indian rasam, which is prepared with chicken stock, it is simple and easy to prepare recipe. While preparing some chicken recipes we remove the stock from the cooked chicken, by using the collected chicken stock we can prepare this delicious rasam, which goes well with rice. This rasam is sour and spicy it is best to have rasam in chilly winters or when you are suffering from cough and cold the spices like cumin,black pepper,garlic,turmeric powder helps in relieving cold and also act as a digestives. Just try this recipe and enjoy with rice.

Preparation time – 10 min

Cooking time – 15 min

Serves – 4

Ingredients  to prepare chicken stock –

Chicken bone pieces – 250 gm

Onion – 1 small chopped

Curry leaves – 2 springs

Tomato – 2 no’s

Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp

To grind or To prepare Rasam powder –

Cumin – 1 tbs

Pepper – 1 1/2 tsp

Fennel seeds – 1/2 tsp

Coriander powder – 1 tbs

Garlic – 1 medium sized

Onion – 1 small

Red chilly – 2 no’s

For tempering –

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves – 1 spring

Hing – 1 pinch

Red chilly – 1

Oil- 1 tsp

Chopped coriander – 1 bunch

Salt

Procedure to make or to prepare Chicken rasam – 

Add cumin, pepper, fennel seeds and red chilies in a mixer jar and run the mixer to make a coarse powder.

Add garlic, onion and coriander powder into the jar and make a coarse mixture without adding water into it and keep ready.

Take a pressure pan add cleaned chicken pieces, whole tomatoes, chopped onion,curry leaves, turmeric powder, salt with 5 to 6 cup of water, pressure cook for 2 or3 whistles.

Once it is done strain and remove chicken pieces and whole tomatoes from it.

Chicken pieces can be used to make curry or side dish. When tomatoes become cool squeeze it to a pulp and keep ready.

Heat a casserole by adding oil in it, when it is hot add mustard seeds allow it to splutter, add curry leaves and a red chilly with a pinch of hing

Add prepared rasam mixture saute for a while, add strained chicken stock and tomato puree/pulp into it.

Add chopped coriander, bring it to boil for 5 to 8 min in a medium flame

Check the taste of the dish if necessary add salt. Once it is done,remove it from the flame. Transfer the dish to a serving dish.

Serve hot Enjoy Chicken rasam with rice.
