Bread upma

Bread Upma is simple and easy to prepare south Indian recipe, made from leftover sandwich bread. A very tasty Indian snack, made in a jiffy with simple ingredients and can be served as a breakfast dish or as an evening snack.
Ingredients:
Bread – 1/2 pound (brown or white)
Mustard – 1/2 Tsp
Cumin – 1/4 tsp
Chana Dal – 1/2 Tsp
Urad Dal – 1/2 Tsp
Cashew nut – 1 tbs
Curry leaves – 2 springs
Green Chilly – 2 no’s chopped
Coriander – 1 small bunch chopped
Onion – 2 medium chopped
Tomato – 2 chopped
Chilly powder – 1/4 Tsp
Turmeric – 2 pinch
Garam masala powder – 1 pinch
Pepper powder – 1/4 tsp
Sugar – 1 tsp (optional)
Salt to taste
Method:
Cut bread into small pieces and keep ready. keep all the other ingredients handy. Heat a pan by adding oil to it, when it is hot add mustard, allow it to splutter, then add cumin, chana dal, urad dal and cashew nut fry until it turns to light brown, now add curry leaves chopped green chilies, saute for few seconds.
Add onion fry until translucent/light brown, then add tomatoes fry until it gets pulpy.
Add chilly powder, turmeric, a pinch of garam masala powder, salt, and sugar saute for few secs. Add 2 or 3 tbs of water, boil until it reaches to a thick in consistency.
Add bread to it, toss it well so that the mixture coats evenly on a medium or low flame, then add pepper powder, toss once again switch off the flame cover the lid and rest it for 5 min before you serve.
Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot.
