Bottle gourd curry I Sorekai palya recipe

Bottle gourd curry or sorekai palya is easy to make recipe which goes great for chapati or it tastes good with akki rotti’s too, eating bottle guard has several health benefits, it is one such healthy veggie which must be included in the diet often. Try this yummy curry which needs simple ingredients to prepare.
Ingredients:
Bottle guard – 1 medium chopped into small pieces (Peel/remove the skin)
Onion – 2 medium chopped
Tomato – 1 no chopped
chana dal – 1/2 cup
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – 2 springs
Coriander leaves – 1/2 cup chopped
Coriander powder – 1 tbs
Chilly powder – 1 1/2 Tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Coconut – 1 cup grated
Salt to taste

Method:
How to prepare Bottle guard curry or Sorekai palya
Soak chana dal for 30 min or pressure cook for 1 whistle by adding 1/2 cup of water.
Take a pressure pan heat it by adding oil to it, when it becomes hot add mustard seeds when it starts to crackle add curry leaves and chopped onions, fry till it turns translucent
Add chopped tomato and fry for a while
Then add chopped bottle guard
Fry till the oil separates from it, add coriander powder, turmeric, and chilly powder fry together for a while add salt to taste.
Add soaked or cooked chana dal mix once again
Add water and pressure cook for 2 whistles and allow it to cool
When the pressure of the cooker becomes cool, open the lid, bring the curry to boil till it becomes thick/water get absorbed, add grated coconut and chopped coriander leaves mix together to cook for 1 or 2 min and turn off the flame.
Enjoy the dish as a side dish for plain Akki rotti /chapati/ for Dosa varieties
