Balekalyi bajji or how to prepare balekalyi podi

A quick and easy to cook the Balekayi (raw banana) bajji as snacks and a side dish. Bajji as snacks is very famous all over India. It’s perfect evening snack with tea / coffee. Our children like to eat the bajji with tomato sauce as it tastes yummy.
Preparation time – 10 min
Cooking time – 10 to 15 min
Serves – 4 to 5
Ingredients :
Large balekayi ( raw banana) – 1 no (cut into long thin slices)
Bengalgram flour – 1/2 bowl
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Red chili powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Cooking soad – 1/4 tsp (optional, if added bajji becomes crispy)
Oil to fry
Procedure:
Take off the skin of raw banana; use only the fiber of the outer cover of raw banana an cut into medium sized thin pieces. Put this sliced raw banana in water, while we preparing the batter for bajji. Add Bengalgram flour, jeera, chili powder, turmeric powder, salt and cooking soda in a bowl. Mix them well by adding water (do not make too thick nor too thin).
Keep oil in a kadi. Heat when oil becomes hot, take a large spoon of hot oil in a spoon and add to the prepared batter and mix well. Take each piece of raw banana dip it in batter and deep fry it in the oil to golden brown.
Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
