Balekai Palya or Raw banana curry recipe

Raw banana are a low glycemic source of carbohydrate and full of nutrition. Raw bananas is regular every day vegetable in India. Raw banana fry is a simple south Indian recipe which is best enjoyed with curd rice and sambar rice.This is a very simple recipe with less ingredients also a quick recipe to be enjoyed.

Ingredients –
Raw banana – 1 medium sized
Onion – 1 chopped
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Sambar powder – 1 tbs
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Coconut – 2 tbs grated
Coriander leaves – 2 tbs Chopped
Salt to taste
Oil to fry
How to make or to prepare raw banana curry –
Peel the skin of raw banana,cut into round thin slices about 4 mm thick.Put it in water and keep ready.
Heat a pan by adding oil in it,add mustard seeds allow it to slutter,add curry leaves saute
Add chopped onion and saute till it turns to translucent.
Add raw banana slices and saute for a while.
Add sambar powder,turmeric powder and salt to taste.Saute altogether for a while.
Add 1/4 cup of water and bring it to boil ,cook in a medium flame.close the lid of the pan.
Ensure that vegetable is cooked,If not sprinkle some more water,once it is done so that water in the curry should be absorbed fully.Add grated coconut and combine altogether,add chopped coriander leaves.
Quick Raw Banana Curry is ready to be served as a side dish for rice or roti.
Tips – Raw banana takes less water to be cooked so take care while you add water to curry. And also it takes less time to cook compared to other vegetables.
You can use red chilly powder other than sambar powder to prepare this curry or you can add 2 tsp of roasted coriander powder with 1 tsp of chilly powder,which gives a different taste and flavor to the curry.
