Avalakki unde I Poha laddu recipe

Avalakki unde or poha laddu is a traditional sweet dish prepared with thick variety of poha, jaggery, ghee roasted nuts, copra, roasted poppy seeds and cardamom, it is a healthy and delicious sweet to prepare for festivals, to offer god as nivedyam/prasad or to munch as a evening snacks. An easy to prepare laddu recipe in a short time.

Ingredients:

Flattened rice/ Avalakki/ Poha (Thick variety) – 2 cup

Jaggery – 3/4 cup (adjust to your taste) crushed

Copra – 3/4 cup grated

Poppy seeds – 1 tbs

Almonds – 1 tbs chopped

Cashew nut – 1 1/2 tbs broken into small pieces

Raisins – 2 tsp

Cardamom powder – 1/2 tsp

Ghee – 2 to 3 tbs

Water – 3/4 cup

Method:

Dry roast poppy seeds to light brown in a medium flame.

Add flattened rice in a mixer jar make a dry powder and keep ready.

Add 1 tbs of ghee in a pan, when it is hot add dry fruits and fry until golden brown and set aside.

In the same pan, add remaining ghee and jaggery saute until it is hot, add 3/4 cup of water and bring it to boil.

Boil it until jaggrey (dissolves completely) get a single string consistency.

Add powdered flattened rice (poha) into it, combine as there is no lumps in it.

Cook in a low flame, cover the lid for 2 min,, switch off the flame, rest it for 5 min. Add all the other ingredients on it.

Mix altogether properly, allow it to cool.

When the mixture is hot enough, grease your hand with ghee make equal lemon sized ball with the prepared mixture.

Avalakki unde is ready to Enjoy !!!

Note –

A day old Avalakki unde/poha laddu tastes yummy than the fresh one. It can be preserved for a week by storing it in a container.
