Methi Dal I Methi dal fry I Mentya Pappu

Methi dal or fenugreek leaves dal is a very delicious dish made with fresh methi leaves, dal. A healthy, tasty and nutritious, protein-packed dal served with hot steamed rice or Rotis for lunch or dinner. It is typically prepared with just tur dal and fresh methi leaves, but it can be easily extended with a combination of moong dal. Methi leaves are bitter in taste naturally but taste great when cooked with lentil and spices.
Ingredients:
To cook –
Tur dal – 3/4 cup
Onion – 1/2 of an onion
Garlic – 4 pods
Tomato – 3 to 4 medium chopped
Fresh methi leaves – 1 bunch chopped
Green chili – 1 slit
For seasoning –
Mustard – 1/2 Tsp
Cumin – 1/4 tsp (optional)
Garlic – 5 or 6 pods peeled and crushed
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Onion – 1/2 chopped
Other ingredients –
Chilli powder – 1 Tsp
Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Ghee + oil 2 tbs
Method:
Take a pressure cooker, Add rinsed tur dal, onion and garlic add 11/2 cup of water and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
when the pressure of the cooker settles down, open the lid add cleaned, rinsed, and chopped methi leaves and tomatoes. Pressure cook for 1 whistle.
Heat a heavy bottomed vessel with Ghee + oil in it, when it is hot add mustard when it begins to splutter add cumin, then add crushed garlic, saute well, add curry leaves and chopped onion fry until onion turns light brown.
Add chili powder and turmeric, saute for few secs, add cooked dal mixture, combine mix well-adding water if required to adjust consistency.
Boil for 5 mins.
Serve methi dal with some steamed rice or soft Chapatis.
