Tur Dal Chutney I Thogari Bele Chutney

Toor dal chutney recipe is healthy and easy to make. The combination of two lentils and grated coconut is the main highlight of this recipe. Many varieties of chutneys can be prepared by using different types of dal which is a great accompaniment for breakfast or to serve with plain rice. 

Ingredients:

Tur Dal – 1 1/2 tbs

Chana Dal – 2 tsp

Coconut – 1/2 cup

Garlic – 2 fat pods

Dry chilies 2 or 3 no’s

Tamarind – a small piece

Curry leaves – 1 spring

Salt to taste

For tempering –

Mustard – 1/2 Tsp

Curry leaves – 1 spring

Dry chili – 1 broken into small pieces

Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp powdered

Oil – 1 or 2 tsp

 

 

Method:

Heat a pan dry fry Tur Dal and Chana Dal until golden brown under low-medium flame is very important to prepare this chutney. Once done remove from the flame, allow it to cool completely.

Add coconut, roasted ingredients, dry chilies, curry leaves, tamarind, and salt into a mixer jar, blend it without adding water, once all the ingredients get powdered then add water as needed, blend it to a chutney.

Transfer prepared chutney to a bowl, heat oil in a tadka pan, when it is hot sizzle mustard, then add curry leaves, asafoetida,  and dry chilies fry until curry leaves splutters, remove from the flame, add it to the chutney, give a mix.

Traditional Tur Dal chutney is ready. Enjoy with any breakfast dish like Any variety of Dosas, Idli, Akki rottis, or goes great with hot plain rice too.
