Rice Bhath I Rice upma I Akki Uppitu recipe

Plain Rice Bhath is a quick and easy one pot meal which can be prepared in a jiffy with a short time. It is similar to upma preparation – mustard, green chilly, curry leaves, onion is seasoned with fresh coriander and cooked along with rice, The natural flavor of fresh curry leaves and coriander makes a tasty rice dish, which can be accompanied with pickle or with a spicy curry.
Ingredients:
Sona masoori Rice – 1 1/2 cup
Mustard – 3/4 tsp
Onion – 4 medium chopped
Green chilies – 2 or 3 chopped
Curry leaves – 2 springs
Fresh Coriander – 1 big bunch chopped
Turmeric powder – 1/4 powder
Salt to taste
Oil

Method:
Rinse rice, drain the water in a colander and set aside. Keep all the ingredients handy, heat a pressure cooker pan, add oil in it, when it is hot add mustard, allow it to splutter, once it begins to sizzle add curry leaves, chopped green chilies, saute for a while, add chopped onion, fry until it turns to translucent, add chopped coriander, saute for a while
Add turmeric powder and saute for a while
Add 3 cup of water to cook 1/12 cup of rice, bring it to boil, once it begins to boil add rinsed and drained rice into it, stir, check the taste, add salt if necessary. Close the lid and cook it for 1 whistle and lower the flame and cook it for 5 min, then remove from the flame.
When the pressure of the cooker settles by its own, open the lid, Fluff the cooked rice with a spatula,
Serve hot with pickle or with a spicy curry.
